Policy DM1.1 states that "new residential development will be required to provide new or enhanced provision of useable public open space, sports and recreation facilities".

Whilst developers have promised a luxurious leisure centre, I do not believe the planned development of the greenfield land (post code: DC1 3FE, planning reference: PR04/2022/0933/F) will enhance the open space. There is a wonderful path and a small seasonal river that attracts a range of local wildlife. Additionally, the developers have made no promises about how they will handle the environmental challenges, such as the relocation of the native bird species, which will most certainly be affect by the development of these lands. Whilst none are endangered species, it will still represent great challenges to the local biodiversity which must be properly addressed

Runner-up was a shot of the moon rising behind Beachy Head lighthouse, near Eastbourne taken by Andrew Parker.

A picture of a toad at Cuckmere Haven, East Sussex, won the nature category.

The competition celebrates the national park's status as one of only 20 International Dark Sky Reserves in the world, which recognises the region as one of the best places globally to stargaze.

Emma Barnett is to leave Woman's Hour in April for a new role presenting BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

She will replace Martha Kearney, who previously announced she would leave the morning news programme after the next general election.

Barnett said she was "delighted to be joining a programme that occupies such a unique space in British life".

The presenter will also front documentaries and set piece interviews for the BBC as part of her new role.

In a statement, she said: "We are living in volatile times where sometimes even asking a question can seem risky - wrongly so.

"My ambition on the Today programme is to keep asking the questions that listeners want answers to - as well as raising many smiles along the way - while armed with a very strong cup of tea."

She added: "My time on Woman's Hour means a great deal to me and I want to thank the team and our mighty army of listeners for how much we have shared - the joy, wisdom, sorrow and sometimes sheer rage."

Policy DM1 should be completely rewritten. It currently does not take account of the national
policy on recreational spaces and falls short of the standard set by the council’s own Local Plan
of 2018.
Cycling policy needs to be integrated with the open space policy such that the two are in sync
and compliment each other. Cyclists are people too! There are too many road users who
currently devalue and risk cyclists lives with their terrible driving. Making cycle provision a
fundamental part of the plan would save lives both through better road safety and also cleaner
air.

Policy P2 also should relate directly to cycle provision and green spaces. Currently the 50
dwellings specified will not be served well by local infrastructure either for cycle provision or by
the nearby green spaces, which, are sparse at best. There needs to be a direct link between
this and the main policies on these topics.
