The importance of the NPPF's presumption in favour of sustainable development cannot be overstated. It recognises that all authorities have a responsibility not only for their own development needs but also for those beyond their borders. As someone keenly interested in town planning, I find that the introduction of Statements of Common Ground provides an essential mechanism for ensuring cooperation amongst local authorities. This is particularly beneficial in urban areas where the interplay of local needs and neighbouring constraints can lead to significant challenges. By documenting progress on cross-boundary matters, we can ensure everyone remains accountable and engaged in the development process. This proposal represents a forward-thinking approach that prioritises community well-being while addressing urgent housing shortages effectively.
