The plan's infrastructure-led focus fails to cater to existing neighbourhood needs, risking social fragmentation. A balanced approach that pairs new housing with local community enhancement is vital.
The proposed Spatial Housing Strategy and Infrastructure Delivery presents numerous contradictions and issues that warrant serious reconsideration. While addressing housing shortages is a legitimate concern, it is troubling that the plan appears to be heavily skewed towards an infrastructure-led approach without adequately accounting for the intricate needs of existing neighbourhoods. Simply adding more homes without a sustained commitment to enhancing local infrastructure would lead to disarray; public transport, parks, and schools are already under pressure in many areas. The vision lacks a firm framework to ensure a symbiotic relationship between new developments and the current community fabric, which could lead to a fractured social landscape. It is crucial to ensure that housing and infrastructure development occur in tandem; otherwise, we risk creating environments that serve no one. As a resident, it is paramount to voice the need for a coherent, thoughtful plan that values community needs alongside housing requirements.
