Section 3.4's prescriptive nature risks producing uniform planning outcomes that neglect local diversity and community representation, leading to theoretical rather than practical solutions.
I find the direction provided by the NPPF in section 3.4 to be overly prescriptive and limiting. Although the intention behind these requirements may be sound, I fear they will lead to homogenous planning outcomes that do not reflect the diversity of our local context. Planning should be an inclusive process that embraces local knowledge, cultural identities, and community aspirations, rather than a mere exercise to check off boxes for compliance. There is a risk that adherence to these procedural norms may result in plans that are merely theoretical rather than pragmatic solutions for our communities. Therefore, we should advocate for a localised approach that gives true power and representation back to our residents.
