The objection highlights an imbalance in prioritising business over housing needs, arguing for a dual-use approach for larger sites. A holistic view of land use is deemed essential for future accommodation.
There has been a noticeable disparity in the focus given to the housing crisis versus the insistence on protecting brownfield sites for businesses. My primary objection stems from the assumption that larger brownfield sites are incapable of meeting dual needs – housing for families and prospects for commercial enterprises. In the past, sites have undergone development which has often led to improved utilisation of space without haphazardly favouring one sector over another. It is essential to take a holistic view of how we use our land, especially in light of the community's growing need for homes. The lack of foresight in the council’s plan will undoubtedly have long-term implications for the district and its ability to accommodate future residents. I believe that re-evaluating the current restrictions and broadening the scope for development will enable a better balance between our local economy and housing needs.
