Chapter 5 - Highlighting areas of text

Consultations often contain areas of text for policies, vision statements, objectives, issues and questions.  All of these can be highlighted within the online document using coloured areas (the colours can be modifed if required for each council).  This helps to draw attention to important areas of the document.  The policies are then added automatically to the document contents to aid with navigation.  Links can be added to any areas of the document if required.  Below are some examples of highlighted text:

Vision

1.1 The new vision for the Area up to 2036 is:

By 2036 our communities' sense of place will have been maintained and reinforced, respecting their unique individual needs. We will have provided a good quality home to meet the differing needs of all our residents, a successful and growing local economy and achieved environmental excellence.

Strategic Objectives

1.2 The new Strategic Objectives are:

Core Objective A: Provide well-designed new developments that are in the right location and adaptable to climate change

  1. Make sure new developments are appropriately distributed across the Local Planning Authority Area and are designed and located to maintain and improve the quality of the built and natural environments, particularly around historic areas and buildings, sensitive wildlife habitats and areas of high landscape value. In addition, new developments should respect the integrity of existing settlements.
  2. Make sure new development is built to a high standard of design, and provide inclusive and attractive places where people feel safe and want to live, work or visit.

Issues with the previous plan

The previous policy was inconsistent with national policy

Why we need the policy
Local Planning Authorities are encouraged to include a policy within their Local Plan that embraces the presumption in favour of sustainable development. This policy meets this requirement and adopts the model wording suggested.

Policy A1

Sustainable development

A.1 When considering development proposals, the Local Planning Authority will take a positive approach that reflects the presumption in favour of sustainable development contained in the National Planning Policy Framework. The Local Planning Authority will always work proactively with applicants jointly to find solutions that mean that proposals can be approved wherever possible, and to secure development that improves the economic, social and environmental conditions in the area.
